Multilingual messaging Hola

Speak your language.
Understand everyone.

Write the way you always do, and read every message in your own language. Lurub translates the conversation with context and keeps the original one tap away.

  • Arabic, Spanish and English from day one
  • Translation is optional and only with your consent
  • Android · iOS · Windows · macOS

Everything you expect from a messenger, without the language barrier

A complete messenger that works without translation, and smart translation when you need it.

Translation that gets context

Keeps names, amounts, dates and idioms intact, and looks at recent messages so translations read naturally.

The original is always there

The original message is what counts. Translation is your own view on your device, never sent in place of the sender's words.

End-to-end encryption

Built on the Matrix protocol and the vodozemac library. The server can't read your messages, and the app never falls back to plaintext.

Multilingual groups

Every member reads the group in their own language. One original message, each reader sees their own translation.

Desktop on its own

Link Windows or macOS with a QR code from your phone, then keep chatting even when your phone is off.

Photos, files and voice notes

Attachments are encrypted on your device before upload, with previews and voice notes at different playback speeds.

Your personal glossary

Decide how specific names and terms are translated, per chat or everywhere, and ask for a better translation any time.

Right-to-left done right

Mixed text like “الاجتماع 10:30 في Madrid” renders with numbers and punctuation in the correct order.

How it works

Three steps, and your language stays yours.

  1. 1

    Sign up with your phone

A one-time code, then pick your name and preferred reading language.

  2. 2

    Write in your language

Your message is encrypted on your device and arrives exactly as you wrote it.

  3. 3

    Everyone reads in theirs

The recipient's device decrypts it and shows a translation in their language if they turned it on, with a button for the original.

Off

Plain messaging. No text leaves your device for translation.

Manual

A message is translated only when you tap “Translate”.

Automatic

Messages in other languages appear translated right away, original one tap away.

Try it yourself

One group, three languages

Karim writes in Arabic, María in Spanish and Emma in English. Pick your language and translation mode, and see the chat as you would.

Privacy isn't an add-on

Lurub is designed so our server can't read your messages, and we tell you clearly when and why any text leaves your device.

  • No message text on the server, in logs or in push notifications.
  • Cloud translation is off by default and only works after you explicitly agree.
  • When translating, only that message and a few earlier ones are sent as context, never your whole history.
  • Senders can mark a sensitive message “do not translate”.
  • App data is stored encrypted on your device, with the key in the system keystore.
  • You hold the recovery key; a recycled phone number can't open your old chats.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Lurub without translation?

Yes. Lurub is a complete messenger on its own; translation is an option you turn on when you want, per chat.

Does the other person see my translation?

No. Everyone receives your original message, and each reader sees their own translation on their device, in the language they chose.

What if translation is down?

The original message arrives right away as usual, with a retry button. Translation never delays messaging.

Can I pick a different language per chat?

Yes. You have a default reading language and can change it for one chat without affecting the others. The app's interface language is separate from both.

Does desktop need my phone online?

No. After linking once with a QR code, your computer has its own keys and works independently.

How secure is the encryption?

We use Matrix encryption (Olm/Megolm) through the established vodozemac library and never write our own cryptography.
